It's that time of the year...the shortest day is Dec 21, 2018 ('the season is the reason').
Here are some lovely older works (some almost a decade old on dArt!) from my olde collection: "Yule Koliada"

And what it may have looked like thousands of years ago at Stonehenge, in England:
Many different traditions exist to celebrate Yule (a Scandinavian word) depending on the country you are in,
but most folks, "Deck the halls with boughs of holly...Don we now our gay apparel...As we sing the Yuletide carol...."
Also Yule logs, and/or buche de noel cakes:
"Faerie spirit of the darkest side of Winter, from Samhain until Midwinter, when the nights will gradually start to draw out again. Nature has withdrawn into herself, holding the memory and experience of the past year and the promise of regenerating the spark of life in Spring...

All seems dark and cold, but there is still beauty in the forms of nature, though seemingly past their best. The fallen Autumn leaves and mushrooms point to the abundant time of life past, the apple cut cross ways shows the pips forming a five pointed star shape, a symbol of life and balance.
This time is often represented by the crone, an ancient lady full of wisdom and experience, associated with the direction of North and the element of earth. Her eyes are dark as she has turned away from interacting fully with the world at this time, but they are filled with stars as she holds the universe in contemplation."

is also some oldies, mostly, but goodies, imo Chosen from my old MayDay-Beltane gallery I have formed over the years: For those who don't know, MayDay or Beltane is the celebration around May 1 when bonfires are lit, the Maypole is danced, Queens of May are crowned, and love is made; a time of rebirth & renewal, the height of spring! Hi! I hope to regularly start doing features of others' art in my journal . Mostly I will endeavor to uncover unseen, undiscovered works, mixed in with a few that have had wider exposure. My "Last*of*SUMMER" feature focuses on that quint*essential signifier of summer~ * flowers * ~ and I ended up, due to size, to divide into parts, with part 1 to be only photography; future parts will focus on digital, traditional, and stock works of deviant art.
Enjoy the flowers, and the last of the warmth (or coming warmth for those of you in the summer hemisphere)!

Back from rural AZ - where I had great light (and weather in winter) but had to drive way out for internet access, so I didn't, often, and especially didn't for most social media, like dArt Hopefully will be active here (in MI) for several months before I go back after the holidaze. Have missed y'all, and your lovely art, and inspirations for mine!
